Sun. The flower heads are familiar to any child; 3-7 drooping yellow rays surround a tall central disk. But even without flowers, prairie coneflower can be recognized by its clump of leaves with long leafless stalks. It usually grows 1-1/2 feet tall but can reach up to 3 feet.
Sow seeds in the fall in sunny areas. Plants bloom in their second year and can continue all summer long.
