Residential Irrigation Design Rebate
Make changes to your irrigation system, get a cash rebate, and get the garden or landscape you want without the high water bills. Ditch the entire system and you’ll receive a larger rebate.
Why the rebate? In San Antonio, customers with irrigation systems use 70 percent more water on average in the summer and 50 percent more annually than customers without irrigation systems.
Rebate Benefits
- You Earn up to $5,000
- Rebate offer expires one year from initial consultation
How It Works
The residential irrigation design rebate is available to SAWS residential water customers that make permanent changes to their irrigation systems resulting in long-term water savings.
STEP 1: Schedule a Residential Irrigation Consultation FIRST!
Call 210-704-7283 to schedule an Irrigation Consultation. Appointments last an hour. We will run your irrigation system, make recommendations and provide a preliminary rebate offer for irrigation changes tailored to your landscape. Rebate offers are good for 12 months from the date of the first consultation.
STEP 2: Complete Changes to your Irrigation System
Remember, you MUST have a consultation BEFORE any work can begin. Have a licensed irrigator complete the work or complete it yourself, following all city and state laws governing irrigation installation. If work is finished and a final inspection is scheduled within 90 days of the first consultation, SAWS will add a 10% BONUS to your rebate!
STEP 3: Pass your Final Irrigation Rebate Inspection
After work is complete, call 210-704 -7283 to schedule your final inspection within 12 months of the initial consultation to verify the rebate work. You will be contacted by phone and asked to submit specific photos of the completed work via email. Once staff have reviewed your photos, you will receive irrigation rebate forms by email. Water conservation incentives (rebates) of $2,000 or more are taxable under IRS rules. If you receive $2,000 or more from SAWS in a single calendar year, you must complete and return an IRS W-9 Form with your other rebate forms. Please make sure only one person’s information is on the W-9 form. The following year, SAWS will mail an IRS 1099 form showing the rebate as taxable income to the person on the W-9 form.
STEP 4: Rebate Check Issued
Once you have received your final rebate approval notice via email, you will receive your check within eight (8) weeks. Checks will be made out to the name on the SAWS account and mailed first class via U.S. Postal Service to the mailing address on the final inspection agreement. If a different name or mailing address for the check is preferred, you need to provide this information during the final inspection.
Rebate Calculations
The rebate is based on the size of the irrigation system measured at the initial consultation.
Irrigation changes are expected to be a permanent change to your property.

- You must have an Irrigation Consultation BEFORE you begin any work. Work completed prior to the first consult will not receive rebates.
- Rebate offer good for 12 months from the date of the initial consult.
- Rebates are in cash. Rebates over $2,000 will require an IRS W-9 tax form.
- Work completed within 90 days from the initial consultation offer receives a 10% bonus.
- Maximum targeted changes rebate equals the amount offered for permanent system removal, plus bonuses (if any).
- Program availability may be subject to budget limitations.
- NOTE: If your SAWS water account is more than 45 days past due and the amount of your irrigation rebate is less than the past-due balance, SAWS Conservation will issue your irrigation rebate as a credit to your SAWS water account rather than mail a check.
- To view your rebate history, you will need online access to your SAWS service account. Note: Once you have logged in to My Account, look for the Coupons & Rebates button in the main navigation menu.
