About This Plant
Sun. Deciduous, with pinnate leaves and spectacular poinciana flowers that eat up summer heat, attracting swarms of hummingbirds and butterflies. On its own it grows to shrub size.
Drought hardy once established; see it planted along highways throughout San Antonio. The stems bear sharp furry thorns.
Maintenance
None needed. Cut back, if desired, after hard freezes. Light pruning in summer produces a nice parasol form.
