About This Plant
Sun or very partial shade. Evergreen. A spherical ribbed cactus that may eventually grow up to 3 feet in diameter. The spines are typically yellow and give it the appearance of a golden aura. Often seen paired with other architectural succulents like artichoke agave for an evergreen blue-and-yellow effect.
It tends to produce clusters of offsets. Golden barrels work well in the rock garden, as long as there is sufficient drainage and temperatures don’t drop below 15 degrees; in sustained wet conditions they may begin to rot.
