About This Plant

Sun/part shade; semi-evergreen. Frogfruit is a low-growing, low-maintenance groundcover that spreads quickly, mixes freely with grasses and clambers over baskets and walls. The tiny flowers attract butterflies. Frogfruit is commercially available (in California it is sold as “Kurapia sod”), but it can also be found growing in sunny natural areas. It transplants easily. Perfect for the floor of a rain garden.

Origins: Southern U.S. and tropical Americas

Maintenance

None needed; can be mowed as needed. Tends to spread by seed; sterile cultivars have been advertised.

Attracts butterflies, spreads rapidly, and requires very little maintenance.
