About This Plant
Sun or dappled shade; it can handle a bit of shade. Perennial, growing as a clump on thin upright stalks. Colorful flowers resemble aster and appear in late spring and early to mid summer.
Ironweed is a favorite of many native gardeners and a standout even among similarly gray-leaved plants like Artemesia spp. and Salvia leucantha. It is fairly long-lived easy to grow even among other plants and readily adapts to clay caliche or rocky soil.
Ironweed is still somewhat rare in the nursery trade but may be found among native plant suppliers.
