During the holidays we’re all busy with a million things and let’s face it, most of those things cost money. But there’s good news! Watering your landscape is one less thing you need to worry about.
If you have turf grass, you likely have Bermuda, zoysia or St. Augustine. And they’ll be just fine with even just a little rainfall until late spring. And if there isn’t any rainfall for several weeks and you absolutely feel you must water, manually turn on your irrigation system to water once that week then turn it off again. Don’t set it and forget it.
As a licensed irrigator, I understand the importance of following best practices to ensure I’m not wasting water. And as a homeowner, I know irrigation systems should only be used as a supplement in the absence of rain. Never leave it in ‘auto’ or ‘run’ mode year-round. This amounts to a lot of unnecessary watering and very high water bills.
So do your yard and your pocketbook a favor and turn off the irrigation controller.
