Prairie Verbena

Glandularia bipinnatifida

Prairie Verbena, Purple Prairie Verbena, Dakota Vervain, Dakota Mock Vervain, Moradilla

About This Plant

Full sun. A short-lived native perennial blooming throughout the warm season and sometimes in winter. The rounded purple flower clusters and highly divided leaves are distinctive. Verbena is tough and can cover fields and hillsides in spring. In a landscape setting, give it good drainage and a full 8-hour summer sun. Shearing it can prompt a flush of new flowers.

Don’t pamper verbena with too much water, or it will develop powdery mildew.

Origins: South-central U.S. and northern Mexico

Maintenance
