Jatropha

Jatropha integerrima

Spicy Jatropha; Peregrina

About This Plant

Part shade to full shade. A tropical evergreen perennial, comparable to oleander or bottlebrush. Over time it can grow to large size with sufficient south wall or other cold protection. The glossy leaves are variable in form, sometimes oval, sometimes trident-shaped. Reddish flower clusters appear throughout the warm season. As in other euphorbias, the sticky sap may irritate sensitive skin. Use some caution around children.

Origins: Cuba; Hispaniola; Greater Antilles.

Maintenance

None needed in summer, but occasional cleanup after freeze damage.
