Scientists from the University of Texas at San Antonio will study how the microbes in our soil affect our health. Bexar County homeowners are invited to participate!

The soil beneath our feet provides important functions for our communities — from sustaining plants to holding water and nutrients to serving as a home to diverse beneficial fauna.

Did you know just a teaspoon of soil holds more than one million fungi and bacteria that support our soils, gardens and ecosystems? These critters help maintain a healthy environment and community!

The University of Texas at San Antonio has assembled a group of scientists to research how the microbes in our communities’ soil affect our health. We are in need of Bexar County residents to participate! All adult individuals who have owned their property for at least two years are eligible.

Those who are selected will complete a short “health and wellness” survey and the UTSA team of scientists will make one visit to take soil and air samples in each participant’s lawn. Participants will receive a $25 HEB gift card and a summary of the microbial groups that were discovered in their lawn.

For more information and to apply to join the project, simply take our survey by June 30.
