Few things arouse a plant lover’s whimsy like a mysterious garden wall or ivy-covered gate. The Secret Garden Tour sets out to tickle that fancy with a rare glimpse inside private neighborhoods around Hardberger Park.
If you missed last year’s Secret Garden Tour, don’t worry — Green Spaces Alliance is providing another opportunity to explore several unique outdoor spaces Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The tour, which costs $20, begins at the Urban Ecology Center at Phil Hardberger Park. The tour is self-guided and self-paced so feel free to linger in any or all of the gardens you love. And docents will be on hand sharing the various design aspects of each garden.
At 10 a.m. well known horticulturalist and ethnobotanist Patty Leslie Pasztor will lead a butterfly banding adventure through the park prairie, savannah and pollinator garden. There will also be a lesson in photography from Picture Your World program manager Carra Garza.
June Kachtik is the former president of the Green Spaces Alliance board of directors.
