Save Money — Use Nature’s Watering Plan

SAWS sewer charges are based on your average winter water use. So, watering your landscape less now can add up to big savings throughout 2022.

This is the perfect time of year to give your sprinkler system a break, especially since winter averaging begins right about now.

SAWS sewer charges are based on your average winter water use. That means the less water you use from mid-November to mid-March, the lower your monthly sewer service charge will be for the rest of 2022.
Irrigation Controller Panel - Irrigation Design Rebate
Your landscape is the single biggest water user. So turning off your automatic irrigation system is the easiest way to use less water.

Here’s why. Most of the plant species we recommend are xeric, or drought tolerant — they prefer very small amounts of supplemental water, especially during the dormant season. Also, from evergreen trees and shrubs to lawns and perennials, all of our plants shut down completely or significantly reduce physiological processes such as photosynthesis, reproduction, cellular activity, etc.

These two factors are reason enough to limit supplementary water to the absolute minimum. If by chance there is an absence of significant rainfall during a month or two, we recommend using the holiday method.

It’s that simple. Save water. Save money. Your plants and pocketbook will thank you.

Adolph Garcia
Adolph ‘Marty’ Garcia is SAWS’ numero uno, top dog, the go-to guy for all things irrigation and has the experience (that would be 35 years) and professional memberships to back up such a stellar reputation. Not only is he a SAWS senior conservation consultant, but he also holds a Texas irrigators license, in addition to a plethora of other credentials. (Did we mention he’s a licensed plumber, too?) Teaching people about water issues is his passion, second only to America’s pastime – baseball – and the hot dogs, pretzels and beer that go with it.
