A Pallet for Planting

No soil, no space, no problem. You can still garden like a pro even if you’re limited on space and soil in your landscape. Just get your hands on a wooden pallet — problem solved.

Pallet gardening is fun and can be accomplished in just a few easy steps:

Gather your supplies. You’ll need a pallet, sandpaper, staple gun, landscaping cloth and good garden soil (I used organic soil).

  1. Next, prepare the pallet. Take some sandpaper and rub down the rougher spots on the pallet and any sharp corners. (You can skip this step if you don’t mind a few splinters.) Staple the landscaping cloth to the bottom and sides of the pallet to contain the soil.
  2. Fill the pallet with garden soil, packing it down firmly.
  3. Start planting! You can choose any plants you want for your garden. If vegetables are your thing, go for it. If flowering plants are your forte, feel free. Depending on the size of your plants, you might need to remove some of the rungs of the pallet to make more room for the growing plants.

Pallet gardening is a fun way to get all family members involved. If you have the space, each child in the family could have their own pallet to cultivate and call their own. The bonus to this type of gardening is there is no need to till and weed!
