Starter Gardener? We Can Show You How!

For the novice starter gardener, getting started can be intimidating. There are so many things to consider — what to plant, where to put your garden, what plants to choose. It can become so overwhelming you may want to give up before you even get started.

Don’t fret. Start by considering your other hobbies. Do you enjoy cooking? Try planting herbs you frequently use. Are you crafty? Shop your home for items that could be repurposed as planters for inspiration. Gardening can be much more than traditional flower beds!

Once you have the basic idea of what you want your gardening project to be, let us help you get started! Learn which plants work well in our area, search for plants in our extensive plant database, get ideas from the Pinterest Board and even send questions to the GardenGeek.

There’s even a special section just for you — the starter gardener.

Another great resource for gardening advice is your local nursery.

Questions to answer before you get started:

  • Do you want an in-ground garden or a container garden?
  • How much plant maintenance are you willing to do?
  • Will the plants you want to use grow well in San Antonio’s climate?

The answers to these questions and many others can be found by doing just a little bit of digging (pun intended). Whatever you decide to do, make it fun!
