You may have heard that plants native to central Texas thrive in poor soils. But just like any other part of your garden, healthy soils are key to growing a sustainable and resilient native landscape.
Join Green Spaces Alliance, Alamo Area Master Naturalists, and the Centennial Community Garden to learn why soil health matters for native plants! Participants will be introduced to the native plants present in the community garden and will learn about the basic components of healthy soil. Then, get hands-on by amending the soil and spreading mulch. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of what a healthy native garden looks like and how they can grow their own. Volunteer Master Naturalists will be on site to answer questions and educate anyone interested in learning more about native plants.
Other garden maintenance tasks will be available, including pruning, weeding, and preparing the garden for winter.
All skill levels welcome! Volunteers should be 16 years of age and up.
