Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a beginner, this in-person event is perfect for anyone looking to enhance their gardening skills. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from expert gardeners and fellow gardening enthusiasts, who will share their knowledge and tips on various gardening techniques. From choosing the right plants for your garden to proper soil preparation and maintenance, we’ll cover all the essentials you need to know to create a thriving garden. Two sessions will take place:

  • Session 1:
Rufus Stephens, co-author with Jan Wrede of “Land Stewardship for Birds: A Guide for Central Texas” will explain how to counter the decline of birds by restoring habitat in our backyards.
  • Session 2:
Mobi Warren, author and former Master Storyteller with the Texas Commission on the Arts, will share tales from “Legends and Lore of Texas Wildflowers and Trees.” Many of our native wildflowers and trees are associated with legends that have been handed down through generations, illuminating the special relationships humans between and native plants.

Gardening Essentials is a free event and open to the public! Suggested donation $5.

Gardening Essentials extras include:

  • Tool Sharpening. Ron Csehil will be there to sharpen your tools!
  • Plant Exchange. Bring in your plants so we can find them a new home!
  • Potluck Social Meet & Greet. Bring your favorite dish to share and enjoy lunching with our group! (Those bringing food to share should have a hardcopy of their food/cookie recipe to set out on the hospitality table to help anyone with a food allergy.)
