Session 1: Norma Jean Moore
Centennial Garden at Woodlawn Lake is an urban land renewal initiative. Through community stewardship and in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the garden offers an opportunity to learn and experience the benefits of native plants while building community. In a recent book, Fourth Nature: An Urban Garden, The Stone The Stream Poets and Norma Jean Moore express this unique space through poetry and paintings. The presentation will provide some history of the garden, management practices, and the art that resulted from this garden.
The art and poetry books “Under the Lens” and “Fourth Nature: An Urban Garden” will be available for purchase; forms of payment accepted are cash, check, credit card.
Session 2: Oscar Gonzalez
Mission Branch Library Manager Oscar Gonzalez will share the history of the library and its community garden, describing its design to serve as a model of water and energy conservation.
Participants are invited to then explore the library, community garden and contribute to its Seed Library during the ongoing summer Monday author nights which GVST co-sponsors with Friends of Mission Branch Library. Library location is 3134 Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio.
