Home to over 300 bird species each year, this 1,200-acre sanctuary showcases four diverse habitats—wetlands, woodlands, brushlands, and grasslands—all supported by water-wise practices and native plants that thrive in South Texas conditions.
Join us every fourth Saturday for a Bird Tour designed with beginning birders in mind. Traveling on foot, guides will walk you through bird identification and proper use of binoculars. This family-friendly program is best suited for ages 5+, and more experienced birders are always welcome too.
Along the way, learn how native plants play a critical role in supporting birds and pollinators—providing food, shelter, and conserving precious water resources. You’ll also explore our native plant gardens and discover how to create your own bird-friendly, water-wise habitat at home. After the tour, continue exploring and even contribute to community science by helping researchers better understand the wildlife living in our city.
