This ongoing community stewardship program reclaims the phrase “litter bug” by engaging volunteers in hands-on conservation that directly benefits birds, native plants, and water quality. Held on the third Saturday of each month, community litter clean-ups at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center help prevent debris from entering wetlands, where it can harm wildlife, degrade habitat, and impact water resources. By keeping the landscape clean and healthy, participants support native plant communities that rely on clean water and provide critical habitat for birds and other wildlife. All supplies are provided, no prior experience is required, and the program is designed to be accessible to families and community members ages 8 and up.
