Sun, part shade. Low growing with sprawling stems. Winecup is a tough, native, drought-tolerant perennial groundcover that forms a sprawling evergreen mat. The rounded, hairy leaves are deeply lobed with cup-shaped blooms containing five petals. Semi-evergreen in winter temperatures, it is often dormant in summer.
Flowers open in the morning and close in the evening and look spectacular in container gardens or a hanging basket.
In the winter, plants can be back to the basal rosette to encourage fresh regrowth. Good drainage is key and winecup is sensitive to soggy roots, especially in during winter rainy seasons; ensure the planting area is well drained. Plants are typically dormant in summer without supplemental water.
A wildflower with vivid magenta blooms that attract pollinators and return reliably year after year.
