Narrow-leaf Globemallow

Sphaeralcea angustifolia

Narrowleaf Globemallow, Copper Globemallow, Hierba del Cáncer

About This Plant

Sun or light afternoon shade. Nearly evergreen in warm winters, with distinctive wavy-margined narrow leaves, often folded down the middle. Blooms appear in a variety of colors, from apricot to red, pink or lilac, depending on the region; shop for them in spring if you’re looking for a particular color.

Globemallow blooms and reseeds freely in dry settings and requires almost no supplemental water.

Origins: West-central U.S., south to central Mexico

Maintenance

Globemallow grows informally and is best in its natural shape; to keep it compact, cut back in late winter or early spring. Avoid overwatering, which can cause leaf drop and root rot.

A beautiful, drought-tolerant mallow.
