About This Plant

Dappled or afternoon shade. Nearly evergreen, with deeply veined leaves and a fiery red flowers in spring and fall. A small shrub, it prefers rocky settings in its native Chisos mountain habitat, so avoid poorly-drained heavy clays. Mountain sage’s autumn bloom is well- timed to attract migrating hummingbirds on their way south.

Origins: Mexico and West Texas

Maintenance

None required. Can be cut back in late winter, or as needed to control size.
