Elbow Bush

Forestiera pubescens

Spring Herald, Stretchberry

About This Plant

Sun/part sun; deciduous. A dense, thicket-forming low shrub in shaded dry settings. Small, very fragrant flowers appear in late winter; elbow bush is also known as a spring herald. A nice privet border for native pathways and an excellent choice for wildscapes, it establishes fairly easily and provides shelter and nesting opportunities for bird thrashers and other skulkers. The name refers to the 90-degree scaffold angles of the branchlets.
