Full sun. Deciduous with narrow leaves resembling willow. Pink tubular flowers appear throughout the warm season. (‘Bubba’ is a purple-flowered variant.) Very drought tolerant; do not overwater, especially in winter. Desert willow has an irregular growth habit and blooms on new wood only; it responds well to pruning.
It not a true willow; the elaborate blooms reveal that it is more closely related to trumpet vines, esperanza, jacaranda and other members of the Bignoniaceae family.
Pruning; training. Avoid overwatering; generally it blooms best after rains, but let it dry out in between.
