Deodar Cedar

Cedrus deodara

Deodar Cedar, Deodar

About This Plant

Full sun. A huge, sprawling evergreen conifer, fast-growing to at least 40 ft. in well-drained soil. Deodar is a very popular landscape cedar in the U.S. Young plants start out with a blue pyramidal form. But give deodar plenty of extra room, because its weeping branches have a very broad spread rivaling live oak in the width of the canopy. It adapts to both acidic and alkaline soils, including compacted clays, as long as they are deep enough; however, it’s not appropriate for thin rocky soils. Although the tree is hardy, the treetop can become somewhat disfigured by both extreme drought and extreme cold in local conditions.
