Pumpkin spice everything isn’t the only reason to love October. There’s the cooler temperatures that are perfect for planting and the monarch butterfly migration. That’s right, every October San Antonio is all aflutter with these winged wonders migrating over Texas en route to Mexico to roost for the winter.
You can join the celebration of their fabulous flight at the annual Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival, Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Pearl.
The festival is actually the culmination of a week’s worth of monarch merriment that kicks off Oct. 12 with seminars, symposiums, workshops and walks. Nearly every day of the week there’s an opportunity to learn about monarchs, other butterflies and bats, too, and how to encourage, feed and save these important creatures.
