About This Plant

Sun or light shade. Evergreen. A yaupon holly cultivar admired for its interesting form: like Italian cypress, this variety grows like a classic exclamation mark in the landscape, with a strong upright columnar (“fastigiate”) habit. Note, ‘Will Fleming’ is male, with none of the red berries associated with other yaupon holly trees.

Will Fleming tolerates moisture and clay soils better than the Italian cypress often used for similar architectural purposes.

Maintenance

Expect eventual maintenance to preserve vertical orientation on mature branches, since their sheer weight tends to slop over as they grow taller. Many growers end up tying it up with string to avoid the constant work of tip-pruning and topping.
