About This Plant

Full sun. Evergreen and very ornamental, with mounding, grass-like foliage — armed with sharp teeth. The common name “desert spoon” refers not to the leaves but their bases, which contain an edible pulp.

Striking bloom stalks appear in spring and summer.

Sotol is extremely heat and drought tolerant and makes a great specimen or a security barrier that even deer may hesitate to cross. It’s a Texas native with a long history of human use.
