About This Plant
Sun. Evergreen, with an upright rosette of yucca-like leaves up to 6 feet long. It resembles Spanish dagger, but the leaves are soft, easily folding when touched. Clouds of wispy fibers envelope the foliage. Give this desert native some room and plenty of full sun and well-drained soil; it doesn’t mind west-facing scorch.
It can be massed for a landscape-scale effect, and although it grows slowly, the size also lends it to use in large pots. Bony flower spikes up to 15 feet long appear in summer, resembling giant skeletal hands or antennas floating above the foliage.
Maintenance
Occasional grooming to remove spent leaves and flower stalks.
