About This Plant
Full sun. A huge, sprawling evergreen conifer, fast-growing to at least 40 ft. in well-drained soil. Deodar is a very popular landscape cedar in the U.S. Young plants start out with a blue pyramidal form. But give deodar plenty of extra room, because its weeping branches have a very broad spread rivaling live oak in the width of the canopy. It adapts to both acidic and alkaline soils, including compacted clays, as long as they are deep enough; however, it’s not appropriate for thin rocky soils.
Although the tree is hardy, the treetop can become somewhat disfigured by both extreme drought and extreme cold in local conditions.
Maintenance
Pruning and training.
