About This Plant
Sun or shade; evergreen, with plentiful red berries and stiff, glossy foliage. The leaves are spiny and resemble horns: the central tip points down and the outer tips point up.
Chinese holly is the botanical parent of various “Burford” hollies, bearing much spinier leaves that make an impenetrable barrier up to 12 feet.
For a nice compact form, see Dwarf Chinese Holly.
Maintenance
Hedging and shaping. Some supplemental summer water may be appreciated by plants in full sun.
