About This Plant
Full sun or very very partial shade; evergreen. ‘Cecile Brunner’ is a mid-sized light pink (and almost thornless!) repeat bloomer known as the Sweetheart Rose — because its small, picture-perfect flower buds make great Valentines and arrive just in time. It was introduced in the U.S. in 1881 and is still found growing in many cemeteries and historic homesites.
A climbing variety is also available.
Maintenance
As with most antique roses, plan on pruning at least twice a year, once after Valentine’s Day and again at the end of summer. Roses are drought-hardy but they do appreciate consistent soil moisture.
