Snag Some Shady Savings

CPS Energy wants you to plant some green in your yard. In return, they’ll put a little green back in your wallet.

Shade trees, properly placed and planted, will significantly reduce cooling costs for your home. They can also earn you some extra dough.

CPS Energy wants you to plant some green in your yard and, in return, they’ll put a little green back in your wallet. It’s all part of their Green Shade Tree Rebate program.

CPS Energy customers can get rebates of $50 for each eligible tree purchased and planted. Rebates are awarded on a first come, first serve basis and there is a lifetime limit of five rebates per address.

The requirements for the Green Shade Tree Rebate program are simple.

  • Purchase qualified species that are 5 gallons or larger. Eligible trees are listed on the site and the application form.
  • Send in the completed application form along with a photocopy of the original sales receipt and a photocopy of your recent CPS Energy bill.
  • The program will continue through April 30 or until program funds run out.

The benefits to planting trees are numerous: they increase your property value, reduce air pollution and even slow water runoff with their roots.

CPS Energy loves trees for their ability to help reduce peak electricity demand in  summer and the need for expensive new power plants.

And SAWS promotes tree planting because once established, trees require little to no supplemental water. They also create a shaded environment for other plants, reducing their water stress and need for additional water.

Just visit Garden Style San Antonio for tips on how to plant trees and get them established.

Fall is for planting! So buy some trees, get them in the ground and apply for the Green Shade Tree Rebate. Your energy and water bills will thank you.
