Ready to revive your tired sun-scorched landscape? Apply for the WaterSaver Landscape coupon now — deadline is Oct. 15!
If you’re thinking about refreshing your landscape and reducing your water footprint, SAWS WaterSaver Landscape Coupon is the best way to save water and money!
I chatted with conservation planner, Juan Soulas, to get some helpful advice for customers who may still be on the fence about applying for coupons and want to learn more.
Roughly, how much water can someone save when a customer revamps their landscape?
It depends on a variety of things. If a customer has an irrigation system and they remove the system, that will reduce their water use. When planting new additions, you may see an increase in your water consumption because you must establish first plants first. But with native plants, once established, you will save more water in the long run.
Where can customers find a list of qualifying plants?
From the “Coupons & Rebates” drop-down menu on the GardenStyleSanAntonio home page, click “WaterSaver Landscape Coupon.” From there you’ll see all the steps to apply and toward the bottom you’ll see the green “Approved Plants” button — the filter is already set for “Coupon Eligible” plants. Keep in mind that not all plants will be found at the nursery. The grower may not have it, so have lots of options in mind before you go.
How does this coupon benefit not only the customer’s water use but SAWS?
In the long run, you may save water but importantly it’s changing the view of a typical landscape. A water-saving landscape is more common rather than niche. Since the program was introduced 10 years ago, we’ve increased the number of native plant options to encourage people to make water-saving landscape changes.
What is your favorite water-saving/drought resistant landscape? Why?
My favorite is one that has the right foundation of plants — those that look good in summer and winter. I’m especially fond of evergreen plants. In the depths of drought, they always look good and rarely droopy. In summer, a Turk’s cap can look like it needs water, but it really doesn’t. I also really love purple sage, yuccas and cenizos. The color, fullness and texture add uniqueness to any landscape. Also, a non-native plant that looks good and is available with the coupon is purple heart. Just be certain you want to add it to your landscape because it’s a spreader.
Thanks, Juan! Remember, a water-saving, drought resistant landscape doesn’t mean bland.
