Ready to say goodbye to your sprinkler system?

If your irrigation system is no longer serving its purpose — or you just want it gone — consider the Irrigation Design Rebate and get some extra cash in your pocket.

Did you know you can get a rebate from SAWS for removing useless or unwanted zones from your in-ground irrigation system?

A good example of a useless irrigation zone would be a tree bubbler zone that’s still watering established trees years after they were planted. Trees that are 2 to 3 years old are considered established and no longer need supplemental watering on their residual root ball. Once their roots and canopy diameter have expanded far beyond the bubbler zone, the irrigation isn’t even applying water in the right place.

In this case, you can schedule a residential irrigation consultation to have the system pre-inspected for an irrigation design rebate. SAWS consultants can provide a time-limited rebate offer of $350 for capping an entire irrigation zone — completely removing and retiring it. (Keep in mind: the rebate is only offered for removing the sectional valve, not just capping the heads.)

Other areas that can typically be capped include those in the side yard, around condensers and trash bins.

One of the best reasons to remove irrigation is so you can convert your landscape to a WaterSaver one where plants don’t need supplemental watering once established, or converting grass areas to river rock, hardscape, artificial turf or an outdoor living space.

In these situations, you may just want to retire the whole system — and get a substantial rebate. It requires removing not just the section valves but the irrigation controller, backflow preventer and various other components.

The rebate offer varies depending on how many zone valves are present and whether the system is functional or non-functional. The standard rebate offer is $500 to remove a non-functional system, while getting rid of the whole thing can range from $1,650 to $4,150, again depending on the number of valves. And, if removal is completed within 90 days after the consultation, you may be eligible for a 10% bonus!

To qualify, you must schedule a WaterSaver irrigation consultation before making any changes to the irrigation system. Any work done prior to the consultation will not count toward the rebate. Just give us a call to schedule your free consultation.

Adolph ‘Marty’ Garcia is SAWS’ numero uno, top dog, the go-to guy for all things irrigation and has the experience (that would be 35 years) and professional memberships to back up such a stellar reputation. Not only is he a SAWS senior conservation consultant, but he also holds a Texas irrigators license, in addition to a plethora of other credentials. (Did we mention he’s a licensed plumber, too?) Teaching people about water issues is his passion, second only to America’s pastime – baseball – and the hot dogs, pretzels and beer that go with it.
