The committee will provide an independent third-party review of contested water waste violations.
In 2024, SAWS updated several drought rules. The changes included a new process for water waste violations. Previously, water waste citations went through a municipal court process. Now, the enforcement process is conducted by SAWS, eliminating the need to appear in court.
Customers who disagree have an opportunity to appeal through a committee of non-SAWS employees. This change ensures all customers, regardless of their service location, are subject to the same rules.
To provide an independent third-party review of escalated water waste violations, SAWS created the Dispute Resolution Committee.
The utility is currently seeking candidates for the 11-member committee that will be tasked with reviewing disputed water violation cases and issuing opinions on the outcome of the dispute.
Individuals who have the time and willingness to dedicate to this process and be active contributors are encouraged to apply. Applications are being accepted year-round.
Once nominees are approved by the SAWS Board, the committee is expected to begin its service with the 2024-2026 term.
