Making compost is simple, but choosing the right type can be confusing. Stores offer a wide range: molasses-based, various manure types (chicken, rabbit, cattle, mixed alfalfa), cotton burr, mushroom, and even compost with mycorrhiza. Mulches add another layer of choice—single, double, or triple shredded; cedar, cypress, native varieties; or just use leaves or living mulch. With so many options, where do you begin? Does it matter, or are all composts and mulches essentially the same?
