Celebrate Earth Day the Fiesta Way

Celebrate Earth Day the Fiesta Way

Join SAWS at San Antonio's official Earth Day festivities this Saturday, April 13, at Woodlawn Lake Park. What better way to celebrate our watery orb (and kick off Fiesta) than learning to be better stewards of her most precious gift?

SAWS has been a long-time supporter of the annual Earth Day San Antonio celebration at Woodlawn Lake Park, 501 S. Josephine Tobin.

The free event is the perfect opportunity to get outside and explore Mother Earth, and celebrate environmental stewardship.

And this year, thirsty party-goers will be treated to fresh water straight from the tap of SAWS’ 5,000-gallon water tanker. We’ll also have a conservation booth where you can learn how to leak-proof your home and select the right plants for your landscape.

Due to Easter Sunday falling on April 21 this year, the Earth Day celebration will be held one week earlier on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Quality Air, Quality Life.” There will be a diversity of booths, educational activities, delicious vegetarian and vegan food, as well as environmental speakers, live music, outdoor games and fun for the whole family.

Mark A. Peterson is a conservation project coordinator for San Antonio Water System. With over 30 years of experience as an urban forester and arborist, Mark is probably the only person you know who actually prunes trees for fun. When not expounding on the benefits of trees and limited lawns, you’re likely to find him hiking San Antonio’s wilderness parks or expounding on the virtues of geography and history to his friends.
