Creating a Thanksgiving Tablescape

With Thanksgiving just days away, you may be thinking about your holiday table. It’s not too late to create a beautiful centerpiece.

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather, the warm colors and all the scents and flavors of autumn. I particularly love decorating for fall. One of the best things about fall decorating is you can create lovely décor with items you already have or can easily get at the grocery store.

Everyday items like cinnamon sticks, rosemary stems (or any woody herb), fresh fruit, nuts, mini pumpkins and gourds make beautiful table decorations. Baskets, old wooden boxes, or simple bowls can be used to hold your bounty.

Don’t have candle holders but want to have candles? No problem. Simply turn wine glasses of varying heights upside down to hold your pillar candles or scatter candles of different heights around the table in odd numbered groupings.

Hurricane lamp shades or mason jars are other options for quick candle holders. Center the candle in the jar or clear lamp shade and fill the sides about one-third of the way up with popcorn kernels, nuts or small acorns to add color and visual interest to your decorations. Gourds and nuts can be painted if you prefer a neutral color palate.

Create rustic napkin rings by tying cinnamon sticks, rosemary stems or other greens around your napkins with twine or a simple ribbon. Linens and dishware in neutral tones create balance with the more colorful decorations on your table.

The fall holiday season is a time to celebrate with family and friends. Creating any of these festive tablescapes is a great way to enjoy the holiday and add something special to your table.
