Year-round Watering Rules are Back!

Congratulations San Antonio! Because of your diligence during our recent drought restrictions, SAWS and the City of San Antonio have decided to come out of drought restrictions and return to year-round watering rules for the first time since 2011.

We know it’s been a while since we’ve been there, so let’s review what year-round watering rules mean.

  1. Landscape watering with irrigation or sprinkler is permitted any day of the week before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
  2. Hand watering with a hand-held hose, drip irrigation, soaker hose or bucket is permitted any time of day.
  3. Washing impervious cover such as parking lots, driveways, streets or sidewalks is permitted without runoff to avoid water waste.
  4. Water waste is prohibited at all times. Allowing water to run off into a gutter, ditch or drain or failing to repair a controllable leak is considered water waste and could lead to a citation being issued.
  5. All fountains are allowed.

These rules will continue until there is an announcement in the newspaper that Stage 1 is in effect. We still maintain that turf only needs once-a-week watering so we suggest that customers with irrigation systems leave their controllers set for their watering day in case Stage 1 restrictions are declared again.

As always, you can check here for watering recommendations and other timely tips and you can contact us for a free irrigation system consultation. You just might qualify for a cash rebate for making changes to your irrigation system in the process by participating in our Irrigation Design Rebate.

Again, congratulations! Your hard work as conservation advocates and adherence to drought restrictions in the past have allowed us to come out of drought restrictions for the near future. Should the weather return to hot and dry, Stage 1 restrictions may very well return.
